Lots of media reports (Sky Sports etc.) that we have snatched Schalke's 23 year old left back Sead Kolasinac on a free transfer. Apparently he was in talk with a number of clubs, but we seem to have convinced him with a very high salary.

He would be a good player. Very strong physically, a fighter, a very good defender and decent in the attack as well. 3 goals and 5 assists this season - at Schalke! - is more than our full backs have mustered combined in the last couple of seasons.

This video captures his strengths well, from winning the ball back to the goal:

It is a deal that makes sense; fills a weak point of our squad and does so cost-effectively with a capable player at a prime age.

He is built like a keg and thinks nothing of kicking opponents ten foot in the air if needed; in some way the Branislav Ivanovic of left backs. The sort of bloke you can trust to dig-in at pressured moments and, as we have little of that particular quality amongst the current crop, I'll take that.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Kieran Gibbs at Newcastle next season.

Excellent! We could certainly use this type of an option at the back!

This almost certainly has to mean that Gibbs is on borrowed time at Arsenal. At least as far as I see it this deal looks a sound piece of business though I don't envy any defender walking into our club these days....
