According to Ornstein, Özil has signed a 3,5 year contract, which will earn him around £350k/week before tax.

Best news of the day for me.

Me too, didn't expect this.

Now to tie Wilshere and Ramsey down.

Officially announced. I'm happy with this; at the start of the season and even halfway through it, I wasn't fussed, but now he has new quality to work with, this is (hopefully) a significant moment for the club.

I'm very happy with it - he is my favourite player since Rosicky and I am simply glad that I can see him play for a little longer.

Indeed. We finally, finally showed that we can not only attract, but also keep players in the top bracket. I think losing Sanchez and Özil would have been devastating, no matter who we would have managed to sign as a replacement. Özil signing a new contract was therefore an absolutely huge moment for the club.

Arseblog even speculated that Özil might not have re-signed if there weren't bigger changes on the horizon, i.e. more big signings in the summer or a new manager. But I'm reluctant to believe that.

And for the record, I am not fussed about him earning 200k or 300k or 400k, these sums are completely surrealistic anyway.
