Very close to approaching this game on a high, confident of completing the job in Madrid on Thursday; defensive ineptitude means a sense of frustration, apprehension of doing what is needed in Spain combined with a team line-up which could be on a par with 6-1 and 8-2.

Full strength team for me; 4 days until we play again. Auba is an obvious starter, perhaps stick AMN in midfield but other than that, go with what we have.

Feeling doom and gloom and normally I'm wrong when that's my mood so will hope for a win while expecting a bit of a trouncing :(

Ospina, Bellerin, Chambers, Mavroponos, Kolasinac, Maitland-Niles, Xhaka, Mkhitaryan, Iwobi, Nelson, Aubameyang.

Subs: Cech, Holding, Monreal, Welbeck, Nketiah, Osei-Tutu and Willock

This could well be a promising glimpse of what's to come or an absolute hammering. I know which one I'm expecting.

Halftime Man U 1-0 Arsenal

Shaky early defensively. Xhaka back to old bad habits. Maitland-Niles has looked good and Nelson a couple of shots. Bellerin bombing down the right, but we haven't created enough overall and the passing has been erratic.

Much better scoreline than I'd dreaded. Don't know what's wrong with me today, but I'm fretting and worrying like an old woman (sorry for being ageist and non-gender fluidity friendly) about losing 10-0 or something.

From the broadcast: Mkhitaryan is the first player to score both for and against Man U in the same season.

I thought the same, but it might well be the other. I've been impressed by the young Greek and AMN in midfield, and of course it helps that United are totally lethargic and ineffective relative to the talent they have (in some ways, like us these days).

The game's also pointing out how we need more players who can make the right decisions in attack - so many possible goals or clear chances wiped out with bad decisions earlier on. Other than Ozil, who would you really trust to make the right pass decision every single time?

Fucking Fellaini, the Andy Caroll of Mourinho's United.

we clearly didn't have the players to keep attacking once Mkhitaryan went off.

Fuck off Ospina. Can't wait to see him leave.

Jammy bastards. Them and Liverpool are the luckiest gits out there. Hard luck, Arsenal. Adds to a woeful away record but in isolation does not reflect the effort given. Oh well. Thursday now.

The positive is they didn't humiliate themselves or the club. They battled hard but at the end of the day we are Arsenal and we have to find a way to dissapoint even when we give our all and it looks like we might make some people eat their words.

That second goal - I think a good goalkeeper saves that. But it is what it is. Disappointing but in fairness I think a lot of people expected a lot worse from the team today so 2-1 is not bad result. Still another defeat though.

Bit of a rubbish ‘nothing’ game with lots of misplaced pass - sloppy from both teams. However I am pleased with the effort of the youngsters - some really nice football played by us. We didn’t capitulate - and that’s a positive.

Man Utd are always appear to play really rubbish football. I can totally understand why some of their fans are frustrated- they have some superb players but it looks like Mourinho just doesn’t allow them to play... until they are losing.
