Anyone remember Nacer Barazite? He's in the news in the Netherlands because he refused to shake hands with a female reporter for religious reasons. Apparently he's a devoted muslim.

Looks like he's just checked out, that's calamitous. It can't be easy having your Arsenal dreams evaporate and then playing for Ajax reserves (with Ajax presumably not interested in signing either).

Arsenal ready to grab Oguzhan Ozyakup transfer deal – report
http://metro.co.uk/2016/01/01/arsenal-ready-to-grab-oguzhan-ozyakup-transfer-deal-report-5596124/
Arsenal are planning to re-sign former player Oguzhan Ozyakup – but the transfer might not happen until the summer, according to reports. Ozyakup was in the Gunners youth team for four years before leaving and signing for Besiktas in 2012 where he has since thrived. The play-maker has become one of the world’s best midfield pass-masters and Turkish outlet Fanatik says Arsenal want to re-sign him. The outlet suggests a deal won’t happen until the summer but adds that Ozyakup is keen to return to England and play in the Premier League. Ozyakup could be the perfect long-term replacement for Santi Cazorla.

Interesting rumour this one. He seems to have settled in nicely and matured as a player. He is a full Turkish international now too. Fromwhat I remember of him he was a very good passerr of the ball. Deep lying playmaker type. It would be interesting to see if this has any legs but time will tell.

There was a little smoke about this back in October and November, didn’t think much of it then. Would be quite strange on several fronts:
- Very unlike Wenger to resign a player who he voluntarily, or otherwise, let go.
- Especially, when you consider Wenger has rarely been proven wrong in that department.
- Signing not one, but two central midfielders in one January when we have several players coming back.

Twenty up for Leyton Orient’s Jay Simpson
http://www.football-league.co.uk/news/article/2016/twenty-up-for-leyton-orients-jay-simpson-2885108.aspx

Leyton Orient striker Jay Simpson has expressed his delight at reaching 20 Sky Bet League 2 goals for the season. The 27-year-old hit two, which included a late equaliser, against Stevenage last Saturday, taking him to the landmark tally after just 25 games.

Simpson is out on his own as top scorer in League 2, seven ahead of Bristol Rovers’ Matty Taylor, and says achieving the feat is all down to his enjoyment of playing at Orient.

"It is always nice to score but at the same time you want to be winning games," Simpson told leytonorient.com.

"When we beat Portsmouth it was a great feeling and everyone was buzzing and although we nicked a draw against Stevenage we are still disappointed we didn't get the three points.

"Reaching the landmark is a nice accolade to have and I am delighted to get to 20 goals. There's still a long way to go in the season and hopefully there will be a lot more to come.

"Gaffer, Hess [Assistant Manager Andy Hessenthaler] and Nuge [Coach Kevin Nugent] have made a really enjoyable environment to come into. Everyday I love coming into training and it is like being a kid again.

"You get to come in and you enjoy the sessions - they put on a lot of finishing sessions for the forwards. They let me go out on the pitch and play with freedom which I appreciate so it is nice to be able to score the goals and return that favour."

In total, Simpson has netted 28 times for Orient since joining from Thai club Buriram United in July 2014.

I always knew he had goals in him. Happy to see he has started to be prolific.

Eddie Howe's Bournemouth close in on striker Benik Afobe from Championship side Wolves
http://talksport.com/football/eddie-howes-bournemouth-close-striker-benik-afobe-championship-side-wolves-160108180490
By talkSPORT (@talkSPORT) | Friday, January 8, 2016
It is understoood the 22-year-old could seal a move to the Cherries over the weekend, with the south coast side aiming to bolster their forward line.

Norwich hold a long-term interest in Afobe and had several bids rejected in the summer, but Bournemouth now appear the frontrunners for his signature, for a reported £10million fee.

Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe lost Callum Wilson for the season to a serious knee injury in September and has already signed Roma's Juan Iturbe on loan until May.

Bournemouth are 16th in the table, four points above the Barclays Premier League relegation zone, and go to Birmingham in the FA Cup third round on Saturday.

Afobe only joined Wolves for £2million from Arsenal last January and has scored 23 goals in 48 games for the club. He has netted 10 goals in 27 outings this term for the Sky Bet Championship side.

On Thursday Wolves boss Kenny Jackett denied they had received any bids for the forward, but the club have hinted they could sell this month.

Last month chief executive Jez Moxey refused to rule out a sale, despite the club issuing a statement in the summer insisting Afobe would not be sold this season.

Owner Steve Morgan put the club up for sale in September - and is looking for close to £40million - and boss Jackett admitted that has an impact on the club.

He said: "Rather than just this window it has had an effect on the whole club - there is no doubt about it. It is Steve's decision how much money he puts in. When does he sell to who? What are the circumstances? There is only really him that can answer that."

Sunderland sign former Arsenal defender Eboue
The 32-year-old full-back joins Black Cats on free transfer until end of season.
www.premierleague.com
Wednesday 09 March 2016

Sunderland have completed the signing of defender Emmanuel Eboue on a short-term deal.

The former Arsenal full-back will remain with the Black Cats until the end of the 2015-16 Barclays Premier League season, having shone in training since arriving on Wearside several weeks ago.

"He's a very experienced professional in all aspects of the game at the top level," said Sam Allardyce, the Sunderland manager, before the deal was announced. "If he can bring anything with that experience we'll use it if and when we feel necessary.

"I have DeAndre [Yedlin], Billy Jones and [Adam] Matthews, but when you have somebody with the experience, knowledge and ability of Emmanuel Eboue who wants to come and train with you and prove himself, you can't turn that down."

After joining in 2004, Eboue, 32, spent seven seasons at Arsenal, making 132 Barclays Premier League appearances and scoring five goals, before joining Galatasaray in 2011.

Eboue will be in contention to make his debut for Sunderland in the Tyne-Wear derby on 20 March.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/36301083

16/05/2016

West Ham will sign Norway midfielder Havard Nordtveit on a free transfer on 1 July after his contract with Borussia Monchengladbach runs out.

The 25-year-old, who left Arsenal to join the Bundesliga team in December 2010, has signed a five-year deal with the Hammers.

"It has always been a dream to play in the Premier League and now I have a big opportunity to do that," he said.

Nordtveit, who made his Norway debut in 2011, has 28 international caps.

Will be intresting to see how Havard Nordtveit does, West Ham do need a better balance in their midfield to shield the defend. Good luck to him

Nicklas Bendtner has joined Nottingham Forest on a free from Wolfsburg after having his contract terminated 14 months early. We could see him when we play them in the third round of the EFL Cup in a couple of weeks.

Thought about him for the 'What If' thread, but what do you say, "What if he wasn't such a dick, he probably would have been great?"

Jens Lehmann to rejoin Arsenal as a first-team coach in backroom shake-up
• German to augment coaching staff in general role with first team
• Former goalkeeper returns to club for third time after two playing stints

Monday 3 July 2017 18.02 BST
https://www.theguardian.com/football/20 ... ching-role

The former goalkeeper Jens Lehmann is to join Arsenal as a first-team coach. The German will return to the club for a third time, following two stints as a player, as Arsène Wenger tinkers with his backroom staff. Gerry Peyton is the Arsenal goalkeeping coach, with Lehmann set to augment the coaching staff in a general role with the first team.

Lehmann, 47, joined Arsenal from Borussia Dortmund in July 2003 and made 200 first-team appearances for the Gunners. He was a member of the Invincibles team which went through the 2003-04 season unbeaten, the last time Arsenal won the Premier League title. He left the Gunners at the end of the 2007-08 season but returned for a three-month spell in March 2011 as injury cover for Wojciech Szczesny, Lukasz Fabianski and Vito Mannone – making one further appearance.
