Wenger to offer in-form van Persie fresh deal to stay at the Emirates until 2016

Arsenal are set to offer Robin van Persie a new five-year deal after the striker continued his impressive scoring streak against Wolves. The Dutch striker only signed a four-year contract in 2009 but boss Arsene Wenger is determined to keep hold of his in-form vice-captain. Having been asked to play in a number of positions for Arsenal this season, Wenger has been impressed by the forward's versatility. And with continuing speculation over the future of captain Cesc Fabregas, Wenger is keen to ensure that he keeps hold of his other key players. van Persie reinforced his status as the most lethal striker in the Premier League since the dawn of the year with a double against Wolves. He has now found the net 10 times in seven matches.

If this is true then Wenger must have a feeling he is going to start banging them in. His goals ratio so-to-speak isn't that bad but he is not exactly being dubbed as prolific although he is nearly there and has the quality to be as we've seen in glimpses. Having said that I don't want to see him leave, I hope he retires at Arsenal :chill:

Huh, over the last 2 months Van Persie has been on fire and i wouldn't be surprised if his goals to mins ratio is better than both Berbatovs and Tevez. :puzzled:

This will just be classed as another glimpse of what he is capable of until he goes on a good run as in months of prolific form. My point/question was mainly, is he on the verge of banging them in and his all round game becoming much much better.

Personally I think his game has improved a lot over the last few seasons. He always shows glimpses of what he's capable but normally as soon as he starts to score regularly he gets injured. He is now fit and showing what we all have faith in him to do. I would love to see how many he's got by the end of the season.

Van Persie 'to end his career with Arsenal'
By John Cross, 18/05/11
http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Ar ... 37760.html

Arsene Wenger will offer Robin van Persie a five-year deal to keep the Dutch striker at Arsenal for the rest of his career. Van Persie, 27, has got two years left on his current £70,000-a-week deal, but Arsenal are anxious to tie him down quickly and avoid a repeat of recent contract sagas. Samir Nasri has yet to sign a new deal and only has one year left, which has alerted Inter Milan, Bayern Munich and Manchester City. Wenger remains confident Nasri will stay, but Arsenal may sell defender Gael Clichy before he gets into the final year of his contract.

Arsenal want to avoid such uncertainty with Van Persie and the Dutch forward will be offered a deal to put him on a par with Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas, who is on around £90,000-a-week. Van Persie is enjoying his best ever season for Arsenal, scoring 21 goals - with 20 of those coming in 22 games this calendar year. The Dutch international has also spoken of his love for the club and has emerged with great credit this season, even though Arsenal’s promising first half of the campaign has faded away into disappointment. He has been made vice-captain and is now among the club's more senior players - but his oustanding second half of the season is also likely to have alerted other top European clubs. That has made Arsenal even more determined to secure one of their top stars on a new, long contract.

Next season must begin with our best players secured if we are to move forward. Van Persie has been red hot despite performances around him being less than adequte. His consistency has been stunning. Really hope we win trophies whilst he is at the club, a real leader of the team who deserves success.

I love how you can tell Robin van Persie really loves Arsenal, its like he's one of us. Tying down the best striker in the world to a 5 year deal is great news

Undoubtedly the only player in our entire team that is both (a) consistently good enough for our ambitions and (b) totally committed to the team, with the exception of Vermaelen soon enough. Can't be any question here.

He was outstanding in the second half of the season. Pity Walcott and Nasri faded so much for the second half of the season. If Walcott, Robin van Persie, Nasri and Cesc hit form at the same time we'd be impossible to stop its a great mix of pace, vision, finishing and dribbling. Seems like when one hits form the others sit back.

Just curious about peoples opinion on this, with all the talk about players like Nasri and Clichy being allowed to play out their contracts to the last year.

With Robin van Persie on the last 2 years of his, would you sell him now if he failed to sign a contract extension??

Well we can't sell him until January and I wouldn't do so then as selling our best player/captain half way through the season would send out a terrible message especially after this summer. If he doesn't sign and is left with one year then I guess we will have to, however we must put every effort into keeping him, and I mean everything.

If that offer was on the table in February Im surprised less progress has been made in the last six months.

Personally i can't see Van Persie signing any contract extension until the end of the season with a lot depending on how the team develops this season instead of how much we'll offer him in terms of money/bonuses. Unlike Nasri he seem's to be a player who truly loves Arsenal and the motivation of money is not high on his list of priorities but i believe if we go through a difficult season where we struggle i can see him questioning his future at the club because he'll want to experience the sweet taste of success.

Doesn`t this then exonerate Wenger for not selling Nasri or Clichy earlier. Imagine the uproar if we sold Robin van Persie in the summer window? Personally i agree with Brain-Bandonde on on this one, i can`t see Robin van Persie signing until the end of the season. If we can mount a significant challenge to the title i think that may be enough to convince him.
