Ostersund vs Arsenal is our first knockout round match up. So we are headed for a reasonably short trip to Sweden. Good draw as we avoid the three big guns in Napoli, Dortmund, and Atletico. Napoli vs Leipzig looks well matched. It would have been funny to see Red Bull Leipzig matched with Red Bull Salzburg though, which could still happen later on.

Borussia Dortmund vs Atalanta
Nice vs Lokomotiv Moscow
Copenhagen vs Atletico Madrid
Spartak Moscow vs Athletic Bilbao
AEK Athens vs Dynamo Kiev
Celtic vs Zenit
Napoli vs RB Leipzig
Red Star Belgrade vs CSKA Moscow
Lyon vs Villarreal
Real Sociedad vs Red Bull Salzburg
Partizan vs Viktoria Plzen
Steaua Bucharest vs Lazio
Ludogorets vs AC Milan
Astana vs Sporting Lisbon
Marseille vs Braga

I thought Ostersund was a great draw until Arseblog pointed out A) it will be cold and B) they have an artificial pitch. Hopefully our experience on a plastic pitch in the FA Cup last year will help.

Well, with Lacazette out for up to 6 weeks (which, let's face it with our past record for injury estimates may well make that a flexible timespan) Welbeck will be the one leading the line for at least 2 games. With this being our only real chance of getting back into the Champions League next season it's not good timing.

According to the club website, he had an arthroscopy which apparently is a minimally invasive surgical procedure on a joint (Wiki).

2-0 at halftime. Welbeck appears to be playing striker but looks unconvincing. Without Aubameyang (cup-tied) or Lacazette (injured) we don't have a lot of depth up front.

I miss the HFB already.

Great result this! I was a a bit concerned about the cold and how we could cope with no effective striker but have come through admirably. Although we can get CL football by finishing 4th (Chelsea Liverpool Scum are all suceptible to having bad results) I feel the Europa League is our best bet.

Good routine win and a chance to give one or two kids a go in the return leg. The attendance should be interesting. Some decent teams left in this year so although we are 2nd favourites behind Atletico, it could be a tough last chance saloon for the CL.

Well, the good news is that we turned a possibly tricky event into a routine win. Less convinced by the fact that we still didn't create a huge amount, gave away a penalty, and it could easily have been 1-2 or so.

Welbeck has not so much declined, as he has always gone between 'utter shite' and 'quite possibly could be decent if he keeps this up'. I tried for years not to write him off completely, but he really is Fergie's retirement gift to North London.

Am I the only one who hates it when we don't wear our red strip at home games?

Expecting this match to be a bit drab. Focused on Sunday's final and the job is mostly done here as long as we defend reasonably.

What was I saying? Two goals in a minute and it's 3-2. Sheesh we are real crap some times.

Finished Arsenal 1-2 Ostersunds. Arsenal progress 4-2 on aggregate.

Excellent effort from Ostersunds, could have easily won the tie had they approached the first half of the first leg with the fearless attitude they showed in this game.

Arsenal? The first game was fortunate, this game was very poor. As soon as we meet a decent team, we will be out of the competition.

No, Anarion, I like to see us in red at home too

Didn't see the match but followed on another forum and the Guardian game thread and it would seem we were crap. Welbeck and Iwobi came in for a lot of stick - anyone who saw it, is that fair or are they regular scapegoats now? Napoli out, Dortmund only just scraped through, so that's one rival gone. Could do with Dortmund drawing Atletico.

Once the EFL final is done with, I don't think we can chance a weakened side in this competition. We don't have the squad quality and there is no way we're getting 4th in the Prem.

Saw up to the 46' Kolasinac goal on replay, decided the rest wouldn't be worth the bother. It appears that we can concede to anybody in the world!

Chambers can't escape criticism for the goals, but poor lad, his weaknesses are magnified tenfold in the current environment. I'm far less charitable to Kolasinac, who showed every reason that he is out of the team. Goes between subpar and awful on positioning, anticipation, pace, tackling, everything, and Ostersund could rightly exploit that wing with abandon in the opening exchanges.

At least he scores goals, putting him above Welbeck! He was completely invisible first half, but BBC reports that he missed 4 presentable chances after that. He is our Sanogo Upgrade, I suppose.

Wilshere had another decent performance, I thought, and him and Bellerin were the only ones making any real contribution going forward.

It really, really is a threadbare squad.

AC Milan in the next round. Not what they were but will not be easy.
