PL schedule is out, other than the opening Man City (H) and then Chelsea (A) and two back to backs with the Totts and Man U it looks ok. Of course fixture movement, continental, and cup competitions will affect things though.

I think the tough opening is an opportunity to see what all the change might have wrought. If we perform well we could be off and running, and less than optimal performances won't necessarily kill us as they can be chalked up to growing pains.

Perfect time to play City.

Anyone who is anyone is at the World Cup, bar Sane, and will arrive at the Emirates either undercooked or having had minimal rest. Whereas four of our best five attacking players will have had the summer off, as will Cech, Bellerin, Mustafi, Kolasinac, Sokratis (assuming) et al. We couldn't be better prepared in a tournament year, all things considered.

You're in the wrong season though Jase, so I hope it doesn't end like 2017/18.

On paper it's a horrible start. Could be 0 points from 2 games with the 'be careful what you wish for' vultures circling proudly.

On the other hand, as LG said, a number of City's current squad (16?) will be at the World Cup and could well be fatigued as Brazil, Argentina, Belgium and England are all tipped to make the quarters at least.

Hopefully, the start won't reflect the season past. Onwards and all that malarkey.

Surely most fans etc will be level-headed enough not to expect too much these first couple games? It can't be helped, so maybe we can try and show some encouraging signs - defensive discipline and hard work - and not worry too much about the points.
